2:30 am. Almost at the front door. The dog pauses, staring to my left.
About 50 feet away a large coyote, at the edge of the sidewalk staring back.
Coyote starts to cross the street, freezes momentarily in the headlights of an approaching car. Driver slows, coyote finishes crossing Broadview takes about 3 steps into the park.
He waits. After the car has passed a fair bit down the street the coyote crosses back, at the corner, as one does.
He’s watching the beagle and I, as we watch back, and he slinks neatly back in to the neighbourhood.
I think the coyotes are taking back the streets. And I think the beagle wants to join them.
